TDsoccer Futsal Academy was formed in 2012 and was initially a supplementary training program using futsal as a training tool to develop skills for soccer players. Over the years as futsal has grown our programming has evolved to include high level competition and opportunities to advance to University/Collegiate level. The purpose of the following Q & A is to provide current and relevant information about some of the most asked questions that we receive.
Futsal is Saskatchewan's fastest growing indoor sport. Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided soccer game. It is a 5 v 5 small-sided game played on a hard surfaced, basketball sized court with a smaller, low bounce ball. Futsal is played with touchline boundaries and without walls. The sport is a great skill developer as it demands quick reflexes, fast thinking and pin-point passing.
Our top priority is to motivate players in an environment that is conducive to learning. The more pleasure kids derive from their participation, the more they wish to play. Futsal is the foundation to such goals because it:
• Allows players to frequently touch the ball.
• Presents many opportunities to score goals and score goals often.
• Encourages regaining possession of the ball as a productive, fun and rewarding part of the game (defending).
• Maximizes active participation and minimizes inactivity and boredom.
• Reflects the philosophy of player development expressed in line with Canada Soccer guidelines.
• Eliminates complicated rules such as off-sides that may hinder youngsters from "playing".
Players do not need to also play soccer, but we do encourage players to participate in futsal as well as soccer. However, if you want to do just futsal, no problem.
We always try to plan to avoid conflicts with soccer as best we can but occasionally there may be conflicts with soccer programming.
Competitive players will participate in the Great Plains Futsal League. This option is offered for U14/16/U18 boys and girls. Participation in this stream is by invitation only. The developmental stream of our program is open to all players below this age range or players in this age range who are not ready or simply do not want to play in this competitive environment.
Because facilities used are less expensive than soccer facilities this allows us to keep costs low. TDsoccer is a registered none profit organization that aims to keep costs low. We are not looking to make a profit; we just need to simply cover our costs.
The Futsal season runs from mid-October to end of March. For the competitive stream, there is the Great Plains Futsal League. The league is played with teams across the province. Last year, it included clubs from Yorkton, Swift Current, Moose Jaw, Regina and Saskatoon. There is a plan to participate in at least one tournament and we schedule exhibition games throughout the season.
